Appalachian State and Clemson universities partner to research virtual world technology

BOONE—Appalachian State University and Clemson University are partnering in research, development, and implementation studies related to 3-D virtual worlds through the newly established Carolinas Virtual World Consortium.

BOONE—Appalachian State University student Kara Brown from Charlotte has received the N.C. Campus Compact Community Impact Student Award. The award was presented at the annual N.C. Campus Compact Student Conference held at East Carolina University.

First college chapter of FRIENDS of the Blue Ridge Parkway established at Appalachian

BOONE—The first college chapter of FRIENDS of the Blue Ridge Parkway has been established at Appalachian State University. The chapter is recruiting members who love the parkway and are willing to volunteer their time to help with projects organized by the National Park Service.

Concerto and Aria Competition finals held Dec. 2

Works for brass highlight Dec. 3 performance

BOONE—A performance featuring student brass musicians will be presented Dec. 3 at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Recital Hall at Appalachian State University. Admission is free.
Included on the program are “Four Movements for Five Brass” by Collier Jones, “Greensleeves” arranged by David Uber and “Quintet for Brass, No. 1” by Victor Ewald.

Appalachian Symphony Orchestra performs Dukas, Debussy and Franck Dec. 2

Appalachian student and Charlotte resident receive awards from Association of Fundraising Professionals

BOONE—Two volunteers with The Crossnore School received awards from the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) at an annual National Philanthropy Day celebration held in Hickory Nov. 14.
Appalachian State University senior Robert Quick and Lynn Mozer of Charlotte received awards for their service to the children of The Crossnore School.

Appalachian hosts first Wayne County Weekend

BOONE—High school students from Wayne County who each have received a scholarship to attend Appalachian State University recently participated in the university’s first Wayne County weekend.
Lawrence Richardson, Savalius Swain and Sierra Howell each have received a $20,000 Freshman Class Scholarship for Wayne County.
