Appalachian receives $35,000 from Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation for teacher development project

BOONE—The Western North Carolina Network for Access and Success housed at Appalachian State University has received $35,000 from the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation to implement the “High School to College” faculty/teacher development project.

Appalachian Chorale begins rehearsals Jan. 14.

BOONE—The Appalachian Chorale continues its 32nd season with rehearsals for Ralph Vaughan Williams’s “A Sea Symphony.”
All interested singers are invited to attend rehearsals beginning Jan. 14, 2008. Rehearsals are held every Monday evening during Appalachian State University’s academic semester, except during official breaks and holidays.

Appalachian ROTC cadets receive second lieutenant bars

BOONE—Among the more than 1,000 students receiving degrees during commencement Dec. 16 at Appalachian State University were eight new officers in the U.S. Army.
The officers were commissioned as second lieutenants by Lt. Col. Douglas G. Jett, chairman of the Department of Military Science and Leadership at Appalachian and leader of the university’s Army ROTC program.

New office building planned for Camp Broadstone

BOONE—It has been more than 30 years since a building has been added to Camp Broadstone, but that soon will change.
A 1,500-square foot administrative building is expected to be complete by late spring or early summer 2008.

Appalachian’s Board of Trustees to seek $65 million in bonds to finance campus construction projects

BOONE—The Board of Trustees at Appalachian State University will seek approval from the UNC Board of Governors to issue up to $65 million in bonds to finance two construction projects on campus and refinance bonds issued in 1998 to upgrade the campus utility system.
