Additional volunteers sought for research project

BOONE—Appalachian State University is seeking 500 individuals between the ages of 30-85 to participate in a study to determine the effectiveness of quercetin in reducing sickness from upper respiratory infections. Quercetin is a natural antioxidant derived from plants, such as red apples, red grapes and broccoli.

Barn Dance to be held April 25

BOONE – A barn dance featuring contra, square and circle dancing will be held Friday, April 25, from 7:30 to 11 p.m. in Legends nightclub on the Appalachian State University campus.

Crandall, a professor in the Walker College of Business at Appalachian State University, has had his book “New Methods of Competing in the Global Marketplace: Critical Success Factors from Service and Manufacturing” published by CRC Press, a division of Taylor and Francis Group.

Appalachian joins national effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect the environment

BOONE—Appalachian State University has joined more than 500 universities, colleges and community colleges in pledging to implement a comprehensive plan to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions 80 percent by the year 2050.

Annual Department of Biology greenhouse sale begins April 29

BOONE—The Department of Biology Greenhouse at Appalachian State University will hold its 28th annual spring plant sale on Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon until 6 p.m., beginning April 29 and continuing through May 15 or until sold out. 

Pombo receives Southern States Communication Association’s Outstanding Young Educator Award

BOONE—Dr. Monica Pombo, an assistant professor in Appalachian State University’s Department of Communication, has received the Dwight L. Freshley Outstanding Young Educator Award presented by the Southern States Communication Association (SSCA).

BOONE—A lavender graduation reception will be held May 9 at 3 p.m. in Plemmons Student Union’s Blue Ridge Ballroom at Appalachian State University. The event is sponsored by the university’s Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Taskforce, TransACTION and SAGA (Sexuality and Gender Alliance).

Festival at Appalachian celebrates works by contemporary composers

BOONE—Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia music fraternity at Appalachian State University presents the 39th annual Contemporary Music Festival April 20-25.  Concerts associated with the festival begin at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music’s Rosen Concert Hall. Admission is free.

Appalachian’s Walker College of Business maintains AACSB accreditation

BOONE—Appalachian State University’s Walker College of Business has maintained its accreditation of its undergraduate and graduate business programs with the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). The Walker College of Business has held AACSB accreditation since 1976.
