Western North Carolina’s economy trails state’s economic growth

BOONE—A slight improvement in Western North Carolina’s employment numbers weren’t enough to bolster the region’s sluggish economy. Economic activity in the region, as measured by the Western North Carolina Economic Index, fell 0.2 percent in September.
